Learn how to manage your IonQ account, including API keys, security settings, and access controls.
Accounts are freely available, and can be created by signing up here. All accounts have access to IonQ’s cloud simulators up to 29 qubits (including noise models for our current QPUs) and our our APIs, which can also be used through a third-party SDK such as Qiskit.
To join an existing organization, an Organization Owner will need to send you an invitation first.
IonQ uses API keys to manage access to our systems. Each key must be assigned to a Project, and all jobs submitted with that key be automatically assigned to that project.
Keys are a type of password and should be treated as such. To learn how to store your keys safely, check out our guide on managing API keys.
Your currently active keys are available under the menu, under the API Keys item. The key itself is not visible after creation, however, from this page you can view the name, assigned project, and time each was last used.
If a key is no longer needed, it can be revoked from the API Keys page. Revoked keys immediately stop working, meaning they will no longer be recognized by our APIs.
Jobs submitted with a key will stay in queue even if the key is revoked.
You can manage your account security settings from the Account Settings page from the top menu.
Session Timeouts: To enhance security, you can enable automatic logout after 30 minutes of inactivity. This setting can be toggled in your account settings.
Single-sign-on: If your organization is using a Single-sign-on (SSO) integration, password authentication is automatically disabled. All authentication will be handled through your organization’s SSO provider.
Multi-factor authentication: To enhance security, you can enable multi-factor authentication. This setting can be toggled in your account settings.
For account security, IonQ enforces an inactivity policy that marks any accounts that have not logged in on cloud.ionq.com or used the API in a 180 day period.Fourteen days prior to deactivation, a warning notification will be sent to the account holder’s registered email address, and at 180 days, access to both the IonQ API and the cloud.ionq.com user interface will be suspended.
